builderofcastles@builderofcastles makes some great points, I think. Depression is veyr much in vogue at present, and is considered to be a condition that will persist for a very long time, if not for life, unless one medicates it with powerful pharmaceuticals. It is in vogue to hate your natural body, to feel the victim, to be depressed and to need help from the medical cartel to get through life. I, of course, do not believe this. These notions are traps intended to disarm us, to make slaves of us.

Is not his suggestion to elevate to the next emotional level similar to making the choice to stop depressing?

Certainly both of your methods will help raise the individual out of depression, if only for a few moments. But can we agree that there is an element of disease present? As a homeopath, I believe so. Depression, anxiety, panic, sleeplessness, agitation, tendency to violence or submission - all of these are symptoms that, with very simple applications of homeopathic substances, can be ameliorated so that the individual is better able to make more suitable choices in their lives in general.

Depression with suicidality - Aurum metallicum 200c, one dose every third day

anxiety attacks - Aconitum 200c, as needed during attacks, as often as every few minutes

Grief, trauma, illness accompanied with sleeplessness - ignacia 200c, twice a day

anticipatory anxiety - Gelsemium 30c, twice a day

Anger at work, while driving, from financial distress - Nux vomica 30 or 200c, twice a day or as needed.

Ailments from old grief that has not resolved - Natrum muriaticum 200c, every third day

There are many more. I have seen these remedies work spectacularly.

Depression is in large part choice, but there is an underlying aspect of disease as well. For some it may be as simple as making a better choice, and I do this on the bad days - go for a walk, hug a tree, get in my garden etc. But when I am truly struggling with debilitating depression, I reach for a remedy to help me out too.
