The Downsides of Going to College
It's kinda difficult for me sometimes to make comments about the role schools play in our ecosystem because, there are allot of downsides about schooling that seems to very well contend with the actual importance of schooling.
I really don't know how it would have turned out for me if I didn't go to school but one thing for sure is that I wouldn't have been able to blend with the society the way I am now currently. Education as a whole is a vital tool for upbringing of our wards but I think a lot is wrong with the systems.
If I one day happen to bore children, my kids will go to school, maybe basic education then high school, but college or university, of they're not going to study a professional course I don't think I'd want them to go through that stress. I'll rather have my kids learn a skill, trade or any economical skill that will help them become better and respected people in the society.
I can't tell what I'm using algebra to do in the real world today, especially for a country like mine, most of the things we learnt in school are for formalities. You'll find out a microbiologist working in the bank or a biochemist as a receptionist. It's quite crazy how these types of stuff is thriving in very well my country.
I won't disregard the fact that I benefited from going to college but I think I would have done better for the society probably, if I happen to get into something more productive and economically beneficial for me and the country. I wish I was introduced into the tech world and groomed about digital skills. We go to school, seat for lectures then come back to give proof of we attending the lectures:) it's quite funny how I look back at some of these experiences.
We placed ourselves under tension to write exams and pass. That state of mind makes us want to do anything to pass exams and that's the reason why we see allot of malpractices in our exams hall. Some people will activate their cramming potentials and begin to cram pages just to pass exams. The problem is, how long will it take for you before you begin to forget most of things you read to go and write exams.
Often times these things don't stay upstairs for long because life becomes totally different after living the four walls of our classroom. You begin to solve problems that has nothing to do with whatever you studied in school. Everything about life starts to become strange, and you start off thinking from a fresh how to make ends meet. It really bothers me. So if I'll go to school to go and read and write exams that at the end of the day I'll forget them, it's far better I learn a skill that I'll be able to apply the knowledge on my everyday life.
Exams are good way to find out who the serious students are, those that have been attending lectures and have been serious with their books. However, the aftermath has created many job hunters in our society with less than 50% of they can remember from going to the college. In my opinion I'll prefer to substitute high school and the exams stuffs with skills and training that'll help shape up my entire life in the near future.
