I think scientists are the only ones that have a good track record of predicting the future, but even they are not right all the time. So I wouldn't really put too much weight on people's predictions, nor will I think less of them by being wrong. Moore's law has been correct for a long time, and we are seeing it being proven wrong. We are reaching technology that are beyond what geniuses of the past were able to take into account.
