I'm sorry that your family got covid, but I'm happy that you aren't that much affected, and only have flu like symptoms. It is a danger to those with weak immune system and immunocompromised. So the staying at home and staying away from people, isn't really for you or anyone you know that are healthy, but for those that might be living with people who are in danger of it.
It is like people would rather get sick from strangers, than someone they know
I don't think this is the right way of looking at it. Getting it from strangers is something one can't control, unless they really make an effort to do so [face mask, social distancing, etc]. But as a friend or a relative, if they care about the other party, then they should do everything they can to prevent them from catching the sickness.
For me at least, even though I am considered in a "risk group" still, I would far rather spend my time with friends and family when I can, then lock myself away alone to try and hold back the inevitable.
I think this type of thinking is one of the reasons why the pandemic spread so much faster before, and why the government had to mandate lockdowns.
