I agree that a lot of children are being spoiled too much lately. The toys my niece received in 2 years is more than what me and my siblings received in our childhood. We didn't really got a lot of toys, so maybe that's why my sister is splurging on her kid. But what your wife and daughter are doing, I think, is ok. They aren't getting useless toys or gifts, but are making memories. I think you doing more this summer than what your family did every summer isn't bad. Some like to travel, others like to stay at home, play boardgames or watch movies. As long as you are making good memories together, that is a time well spent.
