Corinthian Column • Architectural Photography

Last week I photographed a column that was part of the old Greenwich Savings Bank. The building was completed in 1924 but the bank closed in 1981. Classical architecture was utilized for bank construction throughout the 20th Century as a means to lend confidence that these institutions would stand the test of time.

Ironically, the architecture has stood the test of time but many of the institutions have not. Now you can see them in prominent locations all over the city housing new institutions such as Walgreens or Rite Aid and even nightclubs. The Greenwich Savings Bank building is currently an event space.

With the rise of crypto who knows what the future holds...
