It all starts in a rush
Like the first rain of a new year
It starts promising
but ends abruptly
almost as soon as the beginning
There is fast beating
drumming and thumping
of young hearts racing.
One is intoxicated
and the other is smitten
Like a cool breeze blowing in the air
It has no time or season
Days and months pass by
but to them it's only been minutes
To them, their love has no limits.
So unwise is the innocent heart
She trusts and loves without thinking
Once her key has been misplaced
lost or given into the hands of another
Her fate becomes sealed
her brain is wrought with discomfort
as her mind is no longer her own
In chains, she is bound and led
like a lamb to the slaughter, well fed
Her sacrifice is just and pure
There is no limit to what she can endure
A little stab, a wound and a large cancer
doubt slowly creeps in to cause disaster
fatigue tags along
a worthy sprinter
and a perfect stalker
never too close and never too far behind
The Smitten is weary and full
yet in satisfaction comes a deeper hunger
she seeks another only in heart
alas the words are too heavy to pronounce
Now the days are slower
the Innocent one wonders
he cries and wails and fights
determined to conquer
never quitting
she longs for her friend and lover
The smitten is gone now
off in search of something better
leaving behind something that was once new
clean and pure
now old faded and broken
Hardened by deceit and full of regret
Once innocent and full of hope
Now lost and bitter
She wanders off, following the wind
chasing ghosts and fighting demons.
