There was once a man.. He was a simple man.. He was walking along the streets and he saw her.. The most beautiful girl. She had eyes that were blue as the morning sky, and skin so soft, it reflected the light of the sun. He looked at her and she caught his gaze and smiled. That smile warmed his heart.. It made him feel love for the first time.

He found out that she was there on the way home. She boarded a ship and was soon gone. He enquired high and low about her whereabouts, and found that she lived thousands of miles across the ocean.

He wrote her letters, hoping she would write back. One winter morning he received a letter, a letter from her. They wrote to each other and soon their affections grew deeper. He longed for her, and she for him. She had a portrait done by her favourite painter, and send it to him. He kept in on his desk, to remember her. To gaze upon her. When he does so, he felt alive. He felt loved. He felt everything his lonely heart had longed for.

Each day, he worked hard. He put the coins he earned in a little box, a box on which the portrait stood atop. But her letters didn't come as often anymore.. And soon they didn't come at all. He feared she had forgotten him. But she was heartbroken, because her longing grew so deep, she couldn't be with him. She thought, if I stopped writing, maybe he would forget about me. Maybe he would find someone closer to where he was.

They were many suitors for her. They presented themselves to her. She was soon engaged to one. And news of the engagement travelled far and wide. He heard about it.. One winter morning. And his heart broke into a million pieces.

But then he looked upon her portrait, and he remembered the time he saw her.. Her blue eyes, and soft skin. And like how a little spark makes a fire, it set ablaze his heart.. A roaring flame of love for her. A fire that would never die out.

He worked twice as hard.. He gave up all his possessions. He stopped going to the taverns and waging money in the arena. He had one goal, he needed to board the ship across the ocean. The ocean which tore their hearts apart.

Many winters passed and he finally filled the box. And one winter morning. He set sail across the ocean. The ocean which tore their hearts apart.

One winter morning he set foot upon the land. The land which she stood upon. He ran, and he did not stop. He ran till he found the doors of her house. He burst through and stood before her. She gazed upon him and she trembled. She felt a spark.. And her heart was set ablaze with love. Love she had never felt before. She ran up to him and fell into his loving embrace. Tears fell down their faces and words of tender love fell from their lips. She broke off the wedding with her suitor.. He didn't really love her anyways. He wanted her for her body.. And for political gains.

Her father was not happy about their love. And threatened the man. He said he would kill him if he married her.. He would kill her too if she stayed with him. But a fire, when it burns, nothing can stand in its way.

One winter morning he was dragged upon the cold streets in chains. He was put upon a hill and stabbed multiple times. She heard his cries and ran out to see him. She held him in his arms, crying in pain. He looked up at her and smiled.. And she stopped crying. She leaned down and kissed him and felt an arrow shoot through her heart. As the blood, a crimson red stained the pure, white snow, They held each other tight and stared out into the ocean. The ocean that tore their hearts apart.

One winter morning, two dead bodies lay on the hill of sorrow. But if you were to reach out and touch their chest. You would feel the warmth. The warmth of the fire that never died.
