This weekend I received the month of August with good energy and the best views of the Atlantic, few know this mysterious place here in Portugal and let me tell you it is the most "Western" point in Europe, to get here I drove with my wife about 180 kilometers until I reached the south of Portugal in the Algarve region, very famous for its beaches, but its beautiful beaches were not my goal! I wanted to take some photos here in "the fortress of Sagres". Join me on this little adventure to explore the wild side of my country!😱🌅⛵
Why visit Sagres??🙇🌍🚩🧭
Many adventurers come to this area in search of adrenaline, here are beaches that are perfect for surfing and other water sports, you can also do many trails to skirt the cliff and enjoy one of the best views of Portugal, officially when you come to Sagres you must visit the "Cabo de San Vicente" which is officially the westernmost point of Europe! in summer the beaches are invaded by tourists who park their motorhome to spend several sunny days and relax on the beach! you know what is the best of all?? FREE... You don't have to pay for anything! and you have free parking!🚌🚐🚍
Another of the sites visited here in Sagres is the famous "lighthouse of Sagres" is a lighthouse that has a long history since it served as a strategic point of surveillance and defense of the country, one of the functions of the lighthouses is to illuminate the boats to avoid be ambushed by "pirates" and in turn serve as a guide for fishing and military boats! in portugal there are many lighthouses that were built around the coasts of the whole country! this is one of the oldest in portugal!🚩🧭🗼
I cannot miss a very interesting fact about the "Faro de Sagres" and that is that its light is so intense that it can be seen from more than 40 kilometers away and technically it is the lighthouse with the highest intensity in Europe. Incredible, right? Sagres, being an "isolated" and quiet city, has high-quality hotels and restaurants, so it becomes an excellent city for your next vacation! From here you can drive an hour and a half and visit the south of Portugal from end to end!🧭🌅🏦
Sagres Fortress🙇🌍🚩🧭
Another name given to the fortress is: "Castillo de Sagres", this point was very important for the Portuguese and they not only built a lighthouse to watch over the pirates' territory, they also built a fortress, this structure had a single objective "military", this fort was built in the fifteenth century basically in the age of discoveries, and over time it underwent some reforms! who would say that this treading ground with more than 500 years!💥🚩🏴☠️💂♂️💂♀️🧭
There is another very interesting fact about the Sagres fort and its construction was very intelligent, only one wall was built to protect it since the other 3 sides are impossible to access because they are bordered by cliffs over 200 meters high! generally they do not look strong with a "only wall of protection", another interesting fact to motivate you to visit Sagres!🧠👨🏫🌅
A relaxing Saturday🙇🌍🚩🧭
For me the weekends are synonymous with "relaxation" I want to escape from the noise of Lisbon, get out of the tedious routine of my work and nothing better than enjoying nature, believe me sitting with your partner watching the vast ocean is something that fills you of peace! I can't complain it was a short but fantastic outing! I would definitely repeat my visit here in Sagres! and I hope I have motivated you to shoot some photos on the westernmost side of Europe!👨👩💖🙇♂️🙇♀️
