BECAUSE WHERE WAS PORTUGAL BORN?🚩🧭 / POR QUE DONDE NACIO PORTUGAL??🏯🏰
I am not going to dwell on the subject because I have already made a post explaining the birth of Portugal as a nation! but I can summarize for you that historically it was here in Guimarães where Portugal was born, that is, it must be the oldest city in the country! And as the castle is built on this land steeped in history it is believed to be the "founding" castle of the nation! Let's just say there is history everywhere! On my trip I came here to "Paço dos Duques" which is a castle where royalty lived and next to it is the castle! you can buy a ticket and participate in the 3 tourist sites! "the palace, the castle and the museum"🧠👨🏫
This looks like simple walls but here my friend was baptized the first king of Portugal, everything is still intact, it is worth mentioning that Portugal is one of the oldest countries in Europe, that is, one of the first to consolidate itself as a nation, that in the century XI, this city is part of the district of Braga, in the north of the country! In 2007 the castle was considered a national monument, and nothing more and nothing less than it is among the 7 wonders of the country!😃
HISTORY🚩🧭 / HISTORIA🏯🏰
This is definitely among my favorite castles along with Palmela, it has an excellent structure, it is very well preserved, and it gives you a nice view of the city! the castle has an interesting history, between the centuries 928 and 950 these lands were part of Castellana, it was built like any castle with military functions, it was expected to defend the territory from the Muslim power that at that time had conquered almost all of southern Portugal, There is a letter that states that the castle was built in 958.😶🦾❓
Almost a century passed and between the dates of 1095 to 1112 Count Henrique and his wife chose the area to live permanently, so they inhabited the castle! From that time improvements and updates began to be made to make the castle safer, in the year 1127 the war came to Braga and Alfonso Henrique resisted the siege inside the castle! let's say that for many years Spain ended up being friend and enemy many times! but the great king defeats the monarchy of the so-called "emperor" and is proclaimed the first king of Portugal🏰🏯
After a few years Sancho I had the idea of protecting the city with great walls, but in the 14th century Portugal would go to war again and the castle took care of protecting the city, leaving the Portuguese victorious.😶👨🏫
Sadly, in the 16th century, as the castle no longer had military purposes, it was abandoned and fell into decay. To give it a use, it was used as a prison. By the 19th century, the population of Guimarães reconciled with the castle and asked the state to rescue the castle. , in this same century he was recognized as an emblematic figure of the medieval era giving him a lot of value and relevance! The castle underwent a restoration between 1936 and 1940, leaving it in excellent condition! today the castle is a symbol of the Portuguese culture and one of the most visited in the country together with the castle of Lisbon!🤴👸
