Good day community
The sound of the cicadas began to be deafening this afternoon in the swamp, the heat began to subside and camouflaged with a small net of leaves and totally motionless, I waited for the moment of encounter with these formidable birds. A large flock of geese landed a short distance from where I was. The idea was to take some pictures of them without hindering their natural movements and without scaring them or compromising their space. Take a series of images when they started to move in different directions. The sun was falling on the lagoon and its light was beginning to leave those reflections of sunset reflected on the surface of the water. I did not lose detail of this situation and I expected that some birds would move towards the strong lighting in order to take images of them against the light.
The youngest geese were preparing to start one of the most spectacular journeys that occur between the species of birds, the adventure of the north. When they begin to feel ready, the flapping and dabbling begin to be frequent among them, they test plumage and also the sensation of having air under their wings. Hundreds of kilometers await them and their instinct, their genetics will take them to those places where they will spend another part of their lives. My attention was focused on some details and movements that, as if it were a choir of dancers, they performed very close to where I was.
I am located in a wetland in southern Europe, in the autonomous community of Extremadura, in Spain. This community is crossed by major rivers in the country and this particular wetland is located in the province of Badajoz near the Guadiana river. This is an exceptional area to see many different bird species, some very rare to see and more to photograph. The feeling I have is of deep peace and tranquility at this point where I am. I have my camera set to silent mode to prevent the sound of photo shots from breaking up this experience.
The main reason for waiting to take these images is, without a doubt, the backlight. The golden water due to the special brightness of the rays falling almost horizontally, the small waves produced by the gentle breeze mark the path of the birds with shadows and sparkles. A very special edition, meticulous and trying to enhance the whole of the photographic experience lived that day in this publication for me so special.
The series of images collected is intended to be a summary of a hot afternoon in August in the south of the European continent. An Atlantic and Mediterranean mix of ecosystems makes them special and very specific places for this type of photographic reportage. Nature shows many faces and facets and this is one of the kindest, of which one never forgets. Sometimes the action is important and in this case not only did I observe these geese, still, as I mentioned before, but I also went around the entire perimeter of the Wetland trying to take many other significant images of this moment.
El sonido de las cigarras empezaba a ser ensordecedor esta tarde en el pantano, el calor empezaba a remitir y camuflado con una pequeña red de hojas y totalmente inmóvil espere el momento del encuentro con estas formidables aves. Una gran bandada de gansos amerizo a poca distancia de donde me encontraba. La idea era tomarles algunas imágenes sin entorpecer sus movimientos naturales y sin asustarlas ni comprometer su espacio. Tome una serie de imágenes cuando empezaron a moverse en distintas direcciones. El sol estaba cayendo sobre la laguna y su luz empezaba a dejar esos destellos de atardecer reflejados en la superficie del agua. No perdía detalle de esta situación y espere que algunas aves se desplazaran hacia la fuerte iluminación con el fin de tomar imágenes de ellas a contraluz.
Los gansos más jóvenes se preparaban para iniciar uno de los viajes más espectaculares que se producen entre las especies de aves, la aventura del norte. Cuando ya se empiezan a sentir preparados los aleteos y escarceos empiezan a ser frecuentes entre ellos, prueban plumaje y también la sensación de tener aire debajo de son alas. Les esperan cientos de kilómetros por delante y su instinto, su genética los llevará a esos lugares donde pasaran otra parte de sus vidas. Mi atención se centro en algunos detalles y movimientos que, como si de un coro de bailarines se tratase, efectuaban muy cerca de donde yo me encontraba.
Me encuentro situado en un humedal al sur de Europa, en la comunidad autónoma de Extremadura, en España. Esta comunidad es atravesada por grandes ríos del país y este humedal en concreto está situado en la provincia de Badajoz cerca del río Guadiana. Esta es un zona excepcional para ver muchísimas especies de aves diferentes algunas muy raras de ver y más de fotografiar. La sensación que tengo es de una profunda paz y tranquilidad en este punto donde me encuentro. Tengo configurada mi cámara en modo silencioso para evitar que el sonido de los disparos fotográficos pueda romper esta experiencia.
El motivo principal de esperar a tomar estas imágenes es, sin ninguna duda, el contraluz. El agua dorada por el especial brillo de los rayos cayendo casi horizontales, las pequeñas olas producidas por la suave brisa marcan con sombras y destellos el camino de las aves. Una edición muy especial, meticulosa y tratando de realzar todo el conjunto de la experiencia fotográfica vivida ese día en esta publicación para mi tan especial.
La serie de imágenes recogidas pretende ser un resumen de una tarde calurosa del mes de agosto en el sur del continente europeo. Una mezcla atlántica y mediterránea de ecosistemas hace que sean lugares especiales y muy concretos para este tipo de reportajes fotográficos. La naturaleza muestra muchas caras y facetas y esta es una de las más amables, de las que uno nunca olvida. A veces la acción es importante y en este caso no solamente observe a estos gansos, quieto, como comentaba antes, sino que iba recorriendo todo el perímetro del humedal tratando de tomar otras muchas imágenes significativas de este momento.
