Today I've noticed that some people post a photo with a link to a source, add exactly one sentence about this picture on their own and the rest of the post is actually a footer with the the same message repeating in every post. Such user is posting this way multiple times a day. Maybe 10 or so times. But apparently doesn't self-vote.
I thought about the motivation of such behavior and came to the conclusion (and this is only my personal opinion) that such person does this purely in hopes to get more upvotes. Basically the motivation behind this is financial.
Have you seen such posts yourself?
The thing that is bothering me is not so much that the photo isn't their's (they do provide a link back to the source) but that it doesn't add any value to the platform or to the person who is posting.
Sure, the picture might be pretty to look at, but it's somebody else's photo. If this person would use only the photos that they have taken themselves, then a single photo would be fine with me. Because it would be original.
To post 10 times a day this way does take time but what is the result in terms of results? Only one or two cents.
Clearly their audience doesn't think such content is worthy of much support.
The good thing is that they don't self-vote. Not like some people we all know too well.
Just to be clear I also self-vote on many of my posts but it's only because I need liquid Steem to support @deemarshall's, @laputis and mine contests community. I simply don't have enough of support from outside of not to self-vote, not to buy the upvotes from the bidbots AND donate 60 Steem in prizes at the same time every week.
The rewards have to come from somewhere. And because I have invested significant amount of money into this platform, I use self-votes to get rewards which goe back to the community in the form of prizes.
So going back to this instance of a single picture with a link to source and a single sentence I think such user could be much more creative.
Are they having fun posting 10 times a day? I don't think so. It's real work.
Are such posts engaging enough so that they receive thoughtful comments? Well, one or two commets per post but not always even that much.
I don't really understand such tactic.
If the engagement is rather low, if the post rewards are low, if it's real work to post 10 times a day, what kind of satisfaction does one get from such posts?
Is it creatively challenging? It could be a challenge to find such photos on the internet but the user seems to have the main source on the web from which the photos are taken.
Am I being elitist? Or is this abuse? Is this a case for steemcleaners to look at? Or maybe such person simply could do a better job of being creative?
By the way, such people usually post low quality comments as well, often bordering on copy/pasting one sentence without showing the author any details that they have actually consumed the content. In other words, if you would take the comment alone, you wouldn't have any clue what was in the post that the comment was meant to go with.
However, the pictures in the posts are really pretty so it's clear to say that the user has a good taste.
I'm well aware that if our platform wants to grow into mainstream, we should be ready to accept all kinds of posts and posting behaviors, from shitposts to 20000 word stories and everything in between but...
...There is always a space for improvement.
