This morning I checked the notifications on Basecamp where all our Total Organist community communications are happening and Jeremy Owens has written an answer to this question:

And he recommened to watch this video about a recently restored orchestrion, a mechanical instrument from 1920's which in fact has 12 different instruments inside and plays itself when you throw in a nickel. Let me know what you think:
