Have you ever stayed up at night sobbing?
Well, I did. Not because I had an issue or felt pain. No!
It was a movie, I know you might be wondering why a sensible person would stay up at night crying cause of a movie, here's why....
One of my bad habits is sleeping very late and I've been trying different methods to stop it, I was advised to try watching movies, I did and instead of making me sleep, it kept me up crying.
This is a Nigerian movie directed by "Akhigbe Ilozobhie" with Nancy Isime as the main character.
Now, I don't usually hype Nigerian movies but to me, this is worth every hype.
The movie centers around a young girl "Queen" who had dreams of becoming an actress from childhood, her parents wanted her to study Law but she decided to follow her dreams so she was disowned.
Queen struggled to put herself through school, after her Nysc (Nigerian youth service Corp) she met a friend "Cynthia" at a movie auditions and they became best friends. They went to a club together one day and Queen met a guy "Delarin" (played by Timini Egbuson) and fell in love with him, he seemed supportive, took her to auditions, paid her transport fares and was really nice to her.
On a special day at an audition, she met a guy named "Hassani Ghadi" (played by Daniel Etim Effiong) he was the assistant director on set and she was part of the "extras" he helped her through her nervousness and she did beautifully well. After the day's shooting, he gave her a flier for a talent show, while they were talking, Queen was called to the producer's office, in there, the producer sexually assaulted her but she managed to get away from him. On getting home, she met her boyfriend "Delarin" in bed with her best friend "Cynthia", with the anger and pain from the heartbreak, she went to the talent show and poured out her heart, making her the winner.
Queen went on to sign brand deals and got acting gigs, seeing how well Queen is doing, her ex boyfriend and ex best friend started blackmailing her with videos of things that happened in the past (she accidentally hit a man and he died).
With all the drama going on, she met Hassani again after 3 years and this time, he was a director on set. Gradually, they fell in love.
Hassani stood up for her at every point and their relationship showed what true love really is, through thick and thin they stood up for each other, together, they were able to put Delarin in his place although Queen had to go to prison for some days.
They were together one day when Hassani started coughing with blood coming out of his mouth, he was taken to the hospital and Queen found out he had Cancer but has been hiding it from her, he had only 1 month to live. Queen cried and pleaded they fight it together but he instructed the nurses never to let her come visit him again.
Queen was devastated and tried commiting suicide but was saved by her manager who encouraged her to follow her heart and go be with him. She took the advice and went to see Hassani, she pleaded with him to ask her to marry him. Few days later, they got married and we're always together till his death. She gave birth to his twins months later and I'll leave you to find out the end yourself ๐.
I know somehow the storyline seems predictable but this is not what you think it is. This movie has changed my mindset about love and the world at large, This is also an eyeopener on Cancer. The emotions and efforts put into this movie is everything for me.
