Shared weekend
You get to spend the weekend with one of the people/characters listed below. Who do you choose and why, and what does your weekend look like - what discussions do you have?
• Leonardo Da Vinci
• Lara Croft (from tomb raider)
• Neo (from the matrix)
• A homeless military veteran
• Adolf Hitler
• Bugs Bunny and Daffy ducks
• Arnold Schwarzenegger
• Viktor E. Frankl
• Your 90 year old self
If I had the opportunity to spend the entire weekend with someone from this list, it'd definitely be Adolf Hitler, one of the most hated men in the world. This Austrian-born German politician’s actions had significant impact on the world but it was not a positive one. Growing up, i heard tales and stories of Adolf Hitler from “politically informed” elders as one of the most powerful and notorious leaders that used fear and intimidation to maintain power, a leader with overriding ambitions for territorial expansion and from my school teachers, as a political dictator of the twentieth century that ruled Germany as a totalitarian state from 1933-1945. A leader that orchestrated both the second world war (WWII) and the Holocaust (also called Shoah) that saw the death of about six million jews in German-occupied Europe. Honestly, I'd love to be in a room with him and listen to the tales directly from the “horse’s mouth“ as I love history and stories of wars. I'd also like to know more about his family and his “less than forty hour marriage”.
First, we’ll go visit some places where the second world war took place, visit some families that were affected by it and the next day, we’ll sit outside under a tree with his favourite meals while he tells me the tales, why he did the things he did, what happened to the new air force he was developing, why he hated the jews to the point of creating extermination camps and killing them, why he and his new bride (Eva) decided to commit suicide when he had just gotten married within the last two days, was there no other option? was the defeat so bad that they could not run away and live secretly? Why he decided not to have kids and how he prevented that from happening as there were no condoms during that period and why he always wore the decoration for bravery he received after the first world war (the rare iron cross first class) even till his death. My final question to him would be “seeing the world as it is now and how your actions changed the course of history, do you regret your actions? If given a second chance, would you do it all over again?”
The weekend would be really exciting and inspiring as I might get to publish a book about it and everything Adolf Hitler did or said. I would not only be fulfilling my lifelong dream, I'd also be making money and fame too but all these would not be possible if he can’t speak English or i German. If there’s still time left after listening to the tales and visiting important places, we'll go on a mini date and I'll treat him to the finest of everything he wants.
This is my entry to the weekend experience concept week 118
