I woke up this morning to find the garden dusted in a light layer of snow. The delicate petals of the final flowers of autumn were topped with snow and ice, like sugar frosting on cakes. I took a few photos, threw some feed down for the birds and headed in to the warmth of the house to have a cup of coffee and begin my first drawing of the day.
Even though it was snowing outside my mind was thinking of warmer climates, and I chose a tropical colour palette for my drawing. To create these tropical looking flowers I used a combination of pen and water-based paints on paper.

'Tropical Colour' -2017
I think the tropical colours of these flowers may be warm enough to melt the snow outside!
