An old oak tree
This mixed media collage is made using text from 'The Old Oak Tree's Last Dream' by Hans Christian Andersen. It is a tale about the life of an old oak tree, the tree is 365 years old. The story beautifully explores the cycle of the seasons and life. Eventually a storm leaves the tree uprooted.
The piece was made by applying layers of blue watercolour to the paper. Once dry I used a white paint pen to draw the outlines of the tree trunk, branches and grasses. I then used a damaged copy of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, selecting The Old Oak Tree's Last Dream. From the book page I cut out the shape of the earth and two oak leaves and then stuck them over the watercolor background.
