At its peak flow during high-river events, hydrologists estimate the flow at up to 200,000 cfs. For perspective, the design flow for the Bonnet Carre Spillway operating with all the bays open is 250,000 cfs.

Really good video about the power of the Mississippi River and how it can build land from the sediment that it carries in the water if not controlled by humans. And to think that this is a free fresh water diversion that the government is going to spend billions of dollars on, totally mind boggling. The sad this is they are going to close this fresh water diversion, really sad that nature ranks so low on mans lists of needs. Anyway the video is well worth the watch.....
