The increase is because of a reduction in what federal fisheries managers call a “buffer,” the percentage of the annual catch limit that’s part of the red snapper equation to keep user groups from exceeding the annual catch limit.
Interesting article about an increase in the snapper catch limit in federal waters. Everyone that I talk to in Louisiana says that there are more snapper than you would believe. In fact they have trouble targeting other fish because of all the snapper hitting their line first. Good to see an increase, sounds like it's needed.
