Assembler (or assembly) language is the layer where a program or operating system runs. When you fire up Windows or Ubuntu, you have 3 layers running underneath that, Binary, hexadecimal and assembler, and also a fourth, but Intel doesn't want us to know that (E.T. phone home).

Not trying to compete, I'm not a coder, but this is closer to hardware, a subject I know a little more about than software, but not enough.
