When I think about it, it is hard for me to see that "absolute power corrupts" component. Arguably, Light Yagami embarked on the wrong mission, needlessly killing even those who was already in prison. (How is this justice?) What was "corrupted" in him that was originally perfect?
I can see slippery slope of (mis-)using Death Note for self defence to kill even innocents, which might be considered as corruption, but not by "absolute power".
