My first guess, without having given it a lot of thought, is that the dating and mating strategies of males vs females of the human species differ radically from one another. Anyone want to talk about hypergamy for instance? Right, I didn't think so, LoL.

And the whole dating/mating cultural paridigm got shifted radically with the invention of the birth control pill. The repurcussions of that invention are far from being assimilated into the culture as of yet. It will probably take many more generations of trial and error experimentation at a minimum. After all, thousands of generations of mating behavior were encoded into human cultural behaviors before the advent of reliable birth control.
