This is a study of watercolor and development of the Rapture of Persephons by Hades.
The composition is about Persephons in the Underworld surrounded by fires and flames.
Hades, in Greek mythology, was the god of the dead (not Death). This good god lived in his palace of the Underworld, from where Hades himself and his brothers Zeus and Poseidon had divided the world, taking Hades this part, the so-called "Underworld." So far, the dead are taken (provided they had an appropriate funeral) by Thanatos (Death) and Charon. Once there they are judged by three judges who decide, by virtue of the life they have led, to send them to one part of the Underworld or to another.
