Sixty-nine Democratic and independent members of the U.S. Congress have called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to intervene with the Israeli government to secure the release of Dr. Husam Abu Safiya, a Palestinian physician who has been held in Israeli detention for more than 500 days.
Dr. Abu Safiya is a pediatrician and the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip. He was detained by Israeli authorities in December 2024 and remains in custody without formal charges or a trial.
