I found Steemit in probably the funniest way one could come across a website. I wanted to find out the origins of why "hold" is referred to as "hodl" and so I Googled it and came across this article. I have to say it was pretty funny and most definitely informative. Most importantly, the author said:
I’ve been earning nothing but cryptocurrency since June of 2016, when I found Steemit.
Something like that grabs your attention! So, I looked a little more into Steemit, liked what I saw, and signed up! For that, I'd personally like to thank the author of that article: 
I'm not exactly sure what the tradition is in these types of posts, but I'm currently invested in BTC, ETH, LTC, XRP, XLM, VTC, and BCH. I'm (regrettably) fairly new to the world of cryptocurrencies. And I say "regrettably" because I had heard about Bitcoin back in 2012 but I brushed it off and never really did my research on it. Even worse, I made a Coinbase account back when Bitcoin had it's sharp rise from $3,000 to $4,600 and then a sharp drop. I was ready to invest. I didn't. And you bet I'm paying the price for it, lol.
