Lately, I am coming to understand better the importance of showing up every day and the long-term result of getting better every day, even if it's just a tiny, weeny bit — but it's regular. And a typical example of such for me is my growth in the past year since being on Hive. The majority of my growth will be credited to the communities I have been active in. The Hive Learners community is one of them. And this article is pivoting on how their atmosphere has made me better.
I think everyone who writes today—newbie or oldie — can attest that it isn't always the easiest thing to make content. And it is most especially so when one is just starting out. This, like most people's, is my story.
I joined Hive only a year ago, but then I had no idea about what I was going to be doing, my niche and all. And so, as my mentor suggested a few things to try, I embarked on a journey to find "my space." In my search, this journey came about, and fast forward a year later, which is now, and I have become an entirely different person by being in this community, which I would like to refer to as "my space"—because it indeed is.
There are many aspects of this place that have contributed to my growth. The community, as it is, has a lot of avenues for different types of people to facilitate their growth. The first I encountered were the #hl-exlusive featured posts:
The compellingly awesome topics
Ah, yes! This is what drew me in. Every week, we have three topics suggested for us. We all take a look at them, draw inspiration from the points, and then, voila, begin spewing out creative perspectives around them. Sometimes, they can be challenging, but that's what I love most about them. Challenges are what help one level up.
Over time, by showing up and attempting these topics, I have come to develop a knack for creating content. And these featured topics have taught me a lot more than I would have learned had I been shying away from "trying."
I have learned to explore, research, and dabble in adventurous concepts. And over time, I have become more knowledgeable in certain areas. Like Warren Buffet says, "That's how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest."
Another thing they have taught me is to be more expressive with my thoughts, and that has helped me assess them better. "Journaling is therapeutic," like my friend @ lizizoo would say, and really, it has been nothing but putting my thoughts on paper the chain.
These topics have not only allowed me to grow exponentially over the past year but have also expanded my connection—that is, the people I have come to know. Yes, I would say "connection," because, really, it is the friends that we make now that will help pave our paths in the future. And these topics have always provided an avenue to meet more people and make more friends through, you know, engagement.
The amazingly incredible individuals
Speaking of friends, I would like to, yet again, be hearty in my appreciation today. I have already mentioned a few of the people I cherish a few days ago. Click here if you'd like to indulge yourself.
Just by going about reading the insights people have written on the topic, I have met and become friends with quite a number of them. And this friendship we now have goes deeper into other things such as accountability, information exchange, and support.
It's amazing how our interests in a topic can bring people together and then form connections that go beyond just that topic. I am grateful for these people that I have now become fond of, as we do a lot more together, which, in turn, helps us become even better.
Doing Hive is much more fun with these friends of mine, and it is even more encouraging with their support. For example, there may be some topics for which one just needs ideas to spark the flame. Some discussions can do the trick, thereby making it much easier to blog.
I wouldn't want to tag a ton of people in this post and then leave out some others, so I will leave it as it is, plain and simple. This post is dedicated to the ones I have grown fond of, the ones that have helped me grow in one way or another, and to those I look forward to building with in the future—my friends. Happy Hive Learners Anniversary! Cheers to us all for being here!
