Claustrophobia is a common fear. When people have this phobia they feel anxiety or panic when they are in closed spaces like elevators, rooms without windows or other situations.
Like most phobias, claustrophobia is irrational. Even if a person knows that the enclosed space does not represent any danger, they may end up with extreme panic.
symptom
Claustrophobia has two fundamental symptoms: fear of restraint and fear of suffocation.
Symptoms may include:
Feelings of concern
Anxiety
Sweating
Crying
Panic attacks
Increased heart rate or breathing
Some people feel that they can not breathe properly in closed spaces, and they want to get out of them as soon as possible.
The fear of closed spaces is an irrational fear. Most claustrophobic people in a windowless room know they are not in danger, however, they will be afraid to incapacitate them, and many do not know why.
People suffering from minor claustrophobia may be able to handle the situation on their own. They can choose to use the stairs instead of entering an elevator, or ask for an open office at work instead of a small closed office.
Others can not handle the condition and require treatment in order to overcome it. Those who suffer from this condition may find that they have to avoid so many activities of life that it becomes difficult to live normally.
