In the news a Halifax woman with terminal cancer who plans to end her life on Thursday Nov 1.
The assisted dying law in Canada says anyone approved for a medically assisted death must be conscious and mentally sound at the moment they give their final consent for a lethal injection.
She (the cancer patient) says the law has forced her to chose to die sooner than she would like, as no advanced order is allowed.
The potential legal and ethical mess aside, do any ordinary medical professional really want the responsibility to declare a person now unable to make decision and carry out their advanced assisted death order?
May be a separate branch of medical personnel is needed to handle these cases and then the advanced order may be allowed.
