Nuno Espirito Santo faced his former side; Wolverhampton Wanderers with his new side; Tottenham. It's bound to happen at some point but it came early in the season and he got the better of his former team as Tottenham ran with the 3 points, courtesy of Dele Alli's penalty which he duly converted.
Spurs started the season brightly after winning the current Champion with the same scoreline for their first game of the season. It's a new life for Spurs who had to bury the horror of last season. Harry Kane showed his intention to leave but he didn't play any part for the first game of the season and he made the bench for this second game. It remains to be seen where he would end up especially as the market is still open.
Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a 1-0 to Leicester City on the first game of the season and now again they suffered the second loss to Tottenham. Wolves dropped tremendously last season which led to their former coach, now Tottenham's coach, to leave. They need to get their acts together because any slack would see them fighting to stay in the league.
Ruben Neves lost the ball and that led to a charge from Tottenham. This charge led to Dele Being fed in the box before being brought down by the goalkeeper. The referee pointed to the spot and Dele Alli stepped up to take it. He beautifully dispatched the ball as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way in the 9th minute.
Adama Traore caused Spurs trouble on the left hand side of the field and he raced through to the side. He managed to find Raul Jimenez whose shot just went slightly over the bar.
The game should have been levelled after Tottenham lost possession and a through pass was given to Traore. He raced on goal in a one-on-one situation but Hugo Lloris saved with his feet on his 300th appearance for Spurs.
Hugo Lloris played a long ball from his goal kick and Bergwijn was found. He raced through on goal and opted to shoot from distance. The goalkeeper saved it and parried it into the path of Son, whose shot was also saved by the chest of the goalkeeper. Bergwijn gathered and laid another pass for Son but his shot was blocked again, this time around by the defender.
Wolves asked Tottenham questions but Tottenham held firm and its a result business so the 1-0 cushion was enough for Tottenham to scale through. The introduction of Harry Kane was a welcomed relief for the Spur fans and he could have scored too but he was denied that moment.
Tottenham got the 3 points and hopefully it won't be another 'Oh-so-near' season for them.
