It's a season to forget for Arsenal and no doubt, they did all they can to get back up there but it just wasn't enough. The season was a mixed season for Arsenal with some good results and not so good results too.
Who would have imagined Arsenal missing the top 4, Europa League and even the recent European Conference competition. Tottenham pipped them to the spot in 7th position while Leicester City and West Ham occupied the Europa League spots.
With the quality of players Arsenal have, you should expect better from them but missing out on these European competitions should help them regroup, focus on the league and domestic competitions while adding significantly to their squad so as to challenge for the title or European places next season.
Arsenal hosted Brighton and they showed what they should have shown all season in a single match here. Arsenal did their bit but it was a little too late as a series of bad results before now cost them.
Arsenal started brightly and Partey had a wonderful strike just outside the box that missed narrowly. Not too long after, Elneny sent Smith-Rowe racing towards the byline. He had a cut back and have Odegaard the pass but his effort was blocked for a corner kick. I felt he should have found Pepe at the other end instead of Martin Odegaard.
Showing their dominance, Partey received a pass from Aubameyang and his effort was pushed over the bar by the goalkeeper. There was a goal mouth scramble that was later shown to have crossed the line in favour of Arsenal but the lineman already ruled for offside. Gabriel also had a decent effort hit the cross bar.
Pepe have Arsenal a deserved lead when Chambers found him right inside the box. His first touch was brilliant and his right footed shot was even more perfect as he beat the goalkeeper to score, 1-0. Pepe wasn't done as Odegaard found him with a pass and he went all the way to find the bottom corner of the net and made it 2-0.
Partey was just unlucky for this match as he should have added the 3rd goal but he struck the crossbar for this one. It was a lovely strike by him.
The game ended 2-0 but Arsenal still fell short and they would have to do some businesses in the summer. I think they should secure the permanent move for Odegaard and keep Nketiah as he would add a lot to their firepower next season. He had a revelational season on loan with Newcastle United and he can be pivotal again for Arsenal next season.
