1 Samuel 12:3
Here I am. Witness against me before the LORD and before His anointed: Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I received any bribe with which to blind my eyes? I will restore it to you.”
To live a fulfilling life and have dominion, we need to have personal values that are rooted in the word of GOD. Everyman is known for something, what are you known for?
Values are basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate our attitudes and actions. They help us to determine what is important to us, the personal qualities that we choose to embody.
In today’s text, Samuel could boldly stand in front of the whole nation and ask anyone from the entire populace to step forward if he had cheated or taken bribe in order to wrongly influence justice. I doubt many of our national leaders today would be able to do the same.
What do you stand for? Do you value Integrity, Respect, Honesty, Faith, Loyalty, Faithfulness, Discipline, Patience or any other virtues? Remember that if you do not stand for anything, you will fall for everything.
1 Corinthians 9:26-27
Therefore, I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus, I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
As believers, we are called to live a victorious life over the devil, sin and the flesh.
As human beings with diverse needs (physical, emotional, spiritual), our bodies could occasionally exert pressure on us to the extent that we might be tempted to go in the wrong direction.
If you have been so thirsty before to the point that you looked into the fridge and picked a drink that belongs to someone else, or maybe you find yourself sleeping when you should be praying, feasting when you should be fasting, you are “guilty” as charged.
However, our flesh doesn’t have to rule over us as believers. By the Spirit of GOD, we have what it takes to conquer the flesh. Paul was willing to discipline his body to ensure that he didn’t miss out on the price of the high calling.
To conquer the flesh, we need to submit to GOD’s Spirit. As Jesus said, the Spirit is always willing even when the flesh is weak, and when we pray, we do not fall into temptation as explained by Matthew 26:41.
When we walk in the Spirit, we do not fulfil the lusts of the flesh. Build the habit of praying in the Spirit, build yourself up, strengthen yourself in faith and you will live a life of dominion over the flesh.
