I am sure we all can remember when Manchester City won the title thanks to the last gasp effort from Sergio Aguero against Queens Park Rangers. Just as we have the "Fergie Time", now Manchester City have "Aguero Time". It has now become a tradition because that was Manchester City's first Premier League title and they won it sensationally.
They only needed a win against QPR and being locked on the same point with Manchester United but with a better goal difference, they just have to win. Manchester United won against Sunderland earlier in the day thanks to a solitary strike from Wayne Mark Rooney and the stadium was about to erupt when it was gathered that QPR were ready 2-1 up. Edin Dzeko and Balotelli came in to salvage the game and in the 90th minute, Dzeko levelled the game and in the 93:20 minutes, Sergio Aguero blasted the shot into the back of the net to give Manchester City their first title.
With the way the Premier League is going this season, Liverpool might pull a last-ditch title snatch from Manchester City. Manchester City played earlier on Sunday against West Ham. I was so sure they would win since they have nothing else to play for this season but they faltered. West Ham raced to a 2-0 lead which was shocking for all to see and no one can say West Ham didn't deserve it. Manchester City rallied around and equalized to make it 2-2.
Manchester City got handed the chance to win the game from the penalty spot but Mahrez couldn't score. What I don't understand is how Mahrez would take the penalty ahead of Kevin De Bruyne at such a crucial time. Everyone wanted to be the hero and this time around, if Manchester City lost the title, Mahrez would be remembered as the person who threw it away for them despite the impressive season he has had already.
With Liverpool scheduled to play against Southampton next, a win against them will cut Manchester City's gap at the top of the table to 1 point and Liverpool would be feeling bad for dropping that point against Tottenham. With 1 point separating the two sides ahead of their last Premier League game, you can be sure that this can go either way for both teams.
Manchester City snatched the title at the last minute from Manchester United in the 2011/2012 season and we might have a repeat of that this season as Liverpool might create a history of their own by winning the title late and also being level with Manchester United with 20 Premier League titles. Liverpool can pull one over Manchester City with the last game of the season.
Liverpool would be banking on the help from former Red players; Steven Gerrard - who is now the coach of Aston Villa and Coutinho who is a player for Aston Villa too. They would be hoping they can help them put up a resistance against Manchester City when the two sides meet for the last game of the season. At this stage, anything is possible and Liverpool would need to do themselves a favour by winning against Southampton first.
Fatigue might be the issue for Liverpool after Chelsea stretched them in the FA Cup final into extra time and penalties but with the firepower at their disposal even though we don't know the state of things with Van Dijk and Salah, I still believe they should be able to get over Southampton. The Premier League is full of surprises and after Aguero's last-ditch winner, anything is possible and Liverpool has the chance to pull it off and pay Manchester City back in the coin they paid Manchester United in the 2012 season.
