When being a sexagenarian, it is time to think about the ages in life. I guess childhood as well as those beautiful teen years can be referred to as âThe First Ageâ. I would say that from the twenties upto midway in the 40s or even 50s, it would be the period of what can be referred to as âSecond Ageâ. And all of us know that from the 50s onward, that period is referred to as the âThird Ageâ.
Reflecting on that, the thought came to me, asking myself: Is there another Age? And if so, Where is the boundary between that age and the following one? When the Third Age ends?
The answer to those questions came to me when I had the immense pleasure to serve, to give time to one of my granddaughters. I could say that I spent almost the whole day taking her to her speech and dancing therapy.

Watching that little beauty watching some small shops, inviting me to go around, asking me all possible questions that came to her mind, or suggesting me what to buy, what to do, doing what I call âSome Window Shoppingâ, or watching her doing all her efforts to follow her dancing therapy, made me understand what the First Age is all about:

First Age: to comprehend the world around you. That, of course, extends to our teenage years. Probably the questions would change, instead of asking âWhat Something isâ, it would change to âHow something worksâ or perhaps, âcan I go to a friendâs party?â

Then comes what I referred to in my introductory paragraph as the Second Age. This is when we can do things on our own, make decisions and face the consequences of those decisions. It is when we go our own way, decide to study or get married, to have a family of our own, to teach our own children what we were taught, updating those trues to the situation we face, to make the best out of it. And it goes own through the growing years of our âchickensâ and the living cycle repeats on them, till they have a family of their own. It is then when we would be arriving to the Third Age.

Third Age: it is when most or our Second Age worries are solved. At this age period we do not owe anything, nor a house, nor a car, nor covering universities expenses for our sons or daughters, there is not much hurry about making ends meet since there is no need for that. Probably we already have enough savings to travel and visit our parents or our siblings, or those friends we made along the Journey of Life. At this age we have interior peace to give our grand-children better solutions to face their challenges that could appear in their lives, more wisdom to evaluate possible outcomes according to the decisions made. I could continue mentioning a huge number of situations, that we at the Third Age, how different we would face them as compared to how we would have faced them when at the Second Age. This is the age we enjoy the gifts of nature.

If we are lucky enough to get through the Third Age, and face the final event every human being would inevitably go through, Death, that will not be the final step, because after this, there exists the Fourth Age.
Fourth Age: this is the time we live in the memories of those who have loved us, the life that keeps vibrating in those who remember us. As long as there exists someone who can tell the others how we were, what we were like, what dreams we had in life, what dreams we gave up, or what dreams we manage to conquer, as long as there is someone who can tell others the stories we used to tell. While there is someone who lovingly can call our names out loud beyond time, we would still be living.
That is why I would give to my family, my sons, my grandchildren as much time as I am able to give, so that they can harvest in their memories what I planted: times of love, of smiles, of laughs, of sharing stories, of getting together, of waiting, of explaining as clear as possible, of watching a film, a football match, of embracing in a warm and a gentle hug. As long as I seed all those moments for them to cherish, that is why I would lovingly say: âDonât you worry, my lovely child, you and I would meet again at the Fourth Ageâ.
