There's a common belief among weightlifters and body builders that if you want to build muscle mass, lift lightweights while to build strength, lift heavy weights. But re entire studies has shown that doing workouts with letter weights can build both muscle and strength if it's proportional to the heavyweight workout.

This means that if you do 10reps with a 10kg dumbell and doing 20 reps with a 5kg dumbell will achieve the same results.

“Fatigue is the great equalizer here,” Stuart Phillips, Ph.D., a kinesiology professor at McMaster and the senior author of the study, wrote about the research Opens a New Window. . “Lift to the point of exhaustion and it doesn’t matter whether the weights are heavy or light.”
