It all started November 23rd, 2020, when myself and my colleague travelled to Benin city, Nigeria for the first phase of the SEPLAT TEACHERS EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM (STEP). We were among the lucky 100 teachers that qualified to participate in the training program. The first phase of the program lasted for five days, and SEPLAT was a wonderful host for those five days. We did not only gain knowledge during the first phase, I know a lot of teachers that was there in the first phase will agree with me that, those five days also serve as real relaxation for us as teachers, sometime, the job can be really stressful, but hey, we are nation builders right?

The STEP program is an educational program designed by SEPLAT with the aim of promoting teachers creative thinking, and also to engage Students more by allowing them express themselves more during lessons. The program was well structured that in 5 days a lot of us were Familiar with some of the areas we were going wrong when it comes to giving these young once our lessons. The program was design to help us better understand how to apply the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) approach of learning into our lesson, how best to become a STEAM teacher. The first phase also was about leadership and self improvement. The resource persons brought to anchor most of the talks were just so amazing. On the 5th day of the program, we were given a new tablet that we are suppose to use to undergo the remaining part of the training online. SEPLAT didn't just share knowledge with us, they gave us that vacation every teacher dream of, it was an amazing experience.
After the five day programme in Benin city, Edo state, Nigeria, we continued the training online for 4 months, going through different modules and learning more about STEAM and how best to apply them, taking online tests after studying each module. It was really tasking because were doing all of these things along side our normal school activities, but hey, when you want something, you just have to do your best to get it. I must tell you, going through those 6 modules for the online part of the training, changed how I see myself as an Educator. I have been implementing most of the things learnt and I love forward to implementing more of what I learnt during the training.

Fast forward to 18th/19th of March 2021, we went back to Benin again for our Award Certification Ceremony. Two beautiful days in Benin, and it was well spent. Myself and my colleague were among those persons that got certified, what we started together we ended it together as well. It was a lovely training, and I really want to say thank you to SEPLAT and their joint venture partners NPDC for this wonderful opportunity, I'm one of the lucky few that gained this knowledge, and now as an ambassador for SEPLAT, I look forward to sharing this knowledge and also help train other teachers to become better. Also, a big thank you to God for this opportunity and the strength to finish what I started November last year. I'm proud to be a TEACHER.
