I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. I always advise against breaking the bank (spending everything or almost everything you have, including savings), but sometimes I find myself in that situation, and failure to break the bank means I will miss out on an opportunity that might never come by again. Trust me, we all have regrets about things we refused to buy because we did not want to break the bank, and in the long run, we find ourselves wishing we had just broken the bank. And after all, we will only suffer the consequences of doing so, but we will not die.
Sometimes escaping breaking the bank for an average individual with an average income becomes inevitable; your income is not that huge, but some of the things that you need are like your 4 or 5 months' salary. In cases like this, you will be required to save. After saving and it is time to make the purchase, you will be forced to take all the money that took you so long to raise and spend it in one day or even just one transfer. As much as what you are buying is what it is and something you really need, it does not stop transfers like that from hurting you. Having an average income does not stop you from having needs that are 4 or 5 times your total income.
I have always wanted to go into graphic design, but then I did not have a laptop to help me achieve that. When I told my dad about it, he rushed to get me a laptop, but the laptop he got me was like a surprise, so he did not tell me about the laptop. But since he does not have the knowledge of laptops and the type that will be good for designs, he bought me a 4GB RAM laptop, and it had an HDD. This combination was quite bad for a laptop meant for designs; it was only a matter of time before the laptop started lagging and hanging. That laptop frustrated me and frustrated my dreams of going into design. I started making plans on how to get a new one as if I really wanted to go into designs.
Last year I made a lot of expensive purchases and spent a lot on projects, even my final year project, but only one purchase really left me thinking if I made the wrong choice or if I made the wrong choice. I got tired of using my old laptop and decided to get another one. It took months to be able to pull it off, but eventually I did, and when I did, I was left with very little, and that forced me to think if I made the right choice or a wrong choice, but if I did not buy it then, maybe I would not have been able to buy it again, so sometimes I am glad I took my chances, and sometimes I am sad I did. That is how I felt about this purchase throughout 2025. The laptop I bought was the most expensive purchase of 2025; it really shook me and took a virtue out of me.
