Hello, everyone.

I welcome my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. There are many friendships and relationships that distance has ruined; one of the things that destroys friendships and relationships, if given the chance, is distance. It ruins everything and leaves nothing, but the truth is that it only does all that it does when the people involved give it the room. If it is not given the room to ruin the beautiful friendship or relationship, then it can do little or nothing, but the moment it is given room, even if it is just a small room, then it can wreck havoc.

One thing about friendships and relationships is that they can survive the rest of time if the parties involved are equally invested and interested in them. Once a friendship or relationship is one-sided, it simply means it is not enough of a route to meet its end because once the person putting in the energy decides to withdraw, then it is all over, whereas a friendship or relationship where all the parties involved are investing in it stands a chance because it has options; if one fails, the other will, and then the friendship or relationship survives and keeps thriving. Staying in touch is how every relationship and friendship stays alive; distance most of the time is how you understand the importance of communication.

Growing up I had quite a few people I called friends, and thanks to them childhood was never boring, not even once. We always had a plan and a schedule for every day. Some of our plans our parents did not approve, and we got them done anyways and then awaited the punishment from our parents. Trust me, those punishments made us cry, but talking about them now makes us laugh really hard. The memories we made we cannot stop talking about; lie, it is a never-ending story. We talk about it over the phone and even when we meet in person.

Last week Sunday I was opportuned to meet a few of my childhood friends; life caused our paths to cross again, and we did not hesitate to make it worthwhile. The moment we all heard we were in the same state, we planned a link-up, and it was like everyone wanted the same thing. Seeing each other after so many years, we really did not want to let each other go. It was from one handshake to another, from calling each other both the names we like and the ones that made us frown growing up. The feeling was something words cannot describe. Until we left the meeting point, I told you that there was not a minute of silence; everyone had a story to tell.

After the meetup I realized that we were able to blend and be like we never left each other because we kept in touch; we still call each other over the phone, chat on WhatsApp, and still tease each other despite the distance between us because I have also crossed paths with those I don't talk to anymore, and how we interacted was completely different and very shallow. We were like strangers, and the exchange of pleasantries was not so deep, more like we were not excited to see each other, whereas as kids we were quite close and it was supposed to be different.

So if we were to be in a room with our childhood friends, the spark could easily be reignited depending on our communication with them despite the distance between us.
