I welcome you to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. We were taught about freedom of speech back then in high school, but our teachers failed to make it clear to us that freedom of speech was not guaranteed. You are free to say whatever you want and however you want, but how do those who hear what you say or say react? We are not for you to decide; you have said what you said, and they did not decide for you. You should also let them react however they deem fit and not how you expect them to react. Your mouth is yours; whatever you want can come out of it, but where those words that come out of it can land, it totally depends on what you let out.
Freedom of speech gives us the right to say things and express our feelings without feeling oppressed in any way; it gives us a level of freedom that says we are not slaves, we can talk, and we can say what we want, unlike the slave trade era, where only a certain caliber of people could talk while some calibers were oppressed and they could do literally nothing about it, nor could they say anything about it or right about it; rather, they just endured everything. But freedom of speech is another way to remind us that we are way past that era.
This freedom of speech was implemented so we could use our mouths to speak up, fight for our rights, and speak up against something that is not nice, but this freedom is being abused by us humans as always. Whatever freedom we are given, we tend to abuse and misuse. The freedom of speech is one of the most abused human rights; some people just say whatever comes to mind without checking or wanting to know where words like that can land them. Freedom of speech has landed more people in trouble than it has actually helped defend the helpless.
There are setting ways you can express your freedom of speech and get prosecuted for it, and this has been the only reason some people have been able to tame their temper. I guess if not, they would have landed us in more problems than we can actually handle, both as a country and as individuals. The only thing stopping some people from saying certain things is because they all know what follows next after those words are said because words, once they are said, they cannot be taken back and are out like a bullet.
For me, prosecuting hate speeches and ignoring freedom of speech is a way to make sure everyone understands that you have your freedom to say whatever you want and deem fit, but then your freedom after saying those things is not guaranteed. I support prosecution of hate speeches and other speeches that affect and impact humanity negatively because that goes against the reason the freedom of speech was even implemented in the first place. It was put in place so we can speak up against evil and fight for our rights, not make another person feel less of themselves or feel like they don't deserve love.
