My original plan back when I joined Steem (Hive) was to document my story of going off the grid in a Log Cabin here in Canada. I started saving, designing, looking for land on a Lake. The more I got into it the more I realized it was going to cost a fortune. Solar power, generators, land, ... and all the propane and gasoline needed to keep things running. I’d also need to chop down a lot of trees for firewood. Then I learned I could not get insurance for a Log Cabin with wood burning fireplace .... the End.

Well... not so fast.

So I decided, rather than go out into the woods and chop them all down, I would find a 1/2 acre of land in Suburbia and plant my own Forest. Mostly Pine, spruce, balsam, fir, boxwoods and a few Apple trees for food. I added a pool as my small Lake in the Forest. So I am not in a Log Cabin in the woods but I have done my best to create a Forest in a part of the City where I can use my bicycle to get groceries. No propane, no gasoline.

If I want that Offgrid Log Cabin experience every now and then we drive into Algonquin Park and rent a Log Cabin for a few days. When we are done we come back to our Suburban Forest and go for a sauna and swim.

These are some of the Log Cabins we have visited in Algonquin Park and Killarney Ontario. These are still an Inspiration to build a Mancave in the Basement. So far I have built a Door that’s says Lodge, and installed a cedar Barrel Sauna ....
