Bitcoin has limited supply of 21M so in the long run, it will appreciate more as less and less tokens can be mined. Ethereum on the other hand has a potential to be a replacement of fiat in the future (one of the main things that needs to be fixed urgently is the long transaction time). Litecoin is expected to reach prices of 200 USD once the market quickly corrects itself after the recent surge (imo overly optimistic projection).

Some people might argue that what we see now is just another tech bubble like the dot.com bubble. I think what we see now is the very beginning of the next generation of Internet, we see the primary technologies being developed. Some great ideas were invented during the dot.com era and later developed (the brightest example is the email protocol). The main issue during that bubble was the investors overvaluing start ups and issuing crazy IPOs. No doubt many blockchain start ups are going to fail in a similar manner, but the important thing here is the technology itself. Yes, several internet companies crashed, but the technology thrived.

Be wary of uncapped ICOs and teams asking for ridiculous amount of money for a pre-product company. Always research the teams thoroughly- what experience they have (is that their first start up?), what stakes they’re going to keep, what they’re going to spend the money on, how much they’ve invested initially, what is the product they’re developing, do you really need a blockchain for it?

My advice would be do not spend your life savings on crypto and use common sense. As with all investments you need to hedge the risk. Distribute the investment accordingly across several blockchains. An example of a portfolio could be 40:40:20 or 40:30:30 (BTC:ETH:LTC). Make sure you read the white paper, research the founders and basically do the whole DD as with more traditional start ups.

I invested a small amount of money (<500 euros) and am currently holding ETH:XRP:LTC in a 80:10:10 ratio. I’m waiting for the bitcoin fork to push the price down a little bit.
