I relocated to Port Harcourt in 2016,June 2016 , via transfer by the organization i work with....
Now Port Harcourt, popularly abbreviated as ph with its slogan "garden city", is a place all Nigerians would term expensive almost compared to the former States capital (LAGOS STATE)...
Port Harcourt is the state capital of RIVERS STATE ,amongst other 36 States in the federation of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory ...
Port Harcourt , a relevant place in Rivers State and is fondly affiliated to the colloquial term, "OIL WELL"...
Every young Lady likes this term as this has been reason some relationships are not working or are torn apart ...
Concurrently ,i am just 1 year 7months old in ph and so far its a nice place not as dreadful as i was before i got down here ...
I presently live in a suburb called SHELL LOCATION ,ADAGEORGE...popularly known for heavy commercial activities .. Also, some people say its the centre of Port Harcourt ....
The people are more of urban than rural settlement as its a place where travellers ,most of them, come to do business ,some stay back , others return to their base ...
Adageorge,my focal point is a very busy Residential-commercial place as you can almost see everything you need for satisfaction , be it a house, a club , hotels ,restaurants (fast foods centres ) , vehicle parks , schools ,churches and lots more ...
Although folks say Adageorge is central location in ph....i totally agree to this claim . Almost nowhere you can not access from this axis ....
Northward -- and you are headed to a Fast developing rural community ....CHOBA...where you find the very popular UNIVERSITY OF PORT HARCOURT (UNIPORT), Uzuoba,Mgbuoba,Rumuosi,Alakahia, and other corners around this location ..
Southward -- and you are headed to another very busy and developed region ......ABA ROAD. Where you find places like, Rumuola,Presidential ,Garrison ,Waterlines , GRA,stadium ROAD ,Elekahia,Nkpogu and so on
Eastward ....and you're headed to another very busy community where almost if not all trades are done .......RUMUOKORO to AIRPORT ROAD where you find places like the popular Rumuokwuta, Eliozu, Rukpoku , Ugwurita, and so on
Westward .....and you are headed to the most busy of all DIOBU where you find places like; the renowned RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY (,newly known as RSUU just before mile 3) ,Agip,Mile 4, Mile 3,Mile 2,Mile 1,Ikoku,Park , Education and a host of all others not mentioned here...
A few pictures about my very niche will be posted below ....
FOOD & CULTURE...
Coming to this very lovely aspect, really i am not a fanatic of favorites ..
I eat anything that's nice and appealing to the stomach ...
Fortunately , Nigeria as a country is rich ,very rich in culture.
Infact what really gives Nigeria its value is its culture and you might not really be able to separate a NIGERIAN from his culture ...
The main ones are ;
Yoruba's
ibo's
Hausa's
Others are subs of these main ones ...
besides the rich culture of Nigeria with its particular kind of food each culture is about ,i have come to like this particular one ....
Its called "BOLE"....pronounced "baw-leh"...(if it were to have a transcription).
"Bole" is a meal popularly made by almost all in port harcourt and can be seen even on the streets on this location.
It has a constituent ....
Its constituents are; Yam ,Plantain ,Fish ,Pepper ,Oil and maybe some seasonings ...
(I also think this can be more sanitized )....
MODE OF PREPARATION
Get your native sauce pan ready over a bunch of charcoal in an aluminum bowl and ignite with fire enough to stay just with flames ...
Keep your sauce pan over the bowl as an intermediary between your charcoal and the actual food ..
Peel your yams and plantain and fish and toss it over the fire for a considerable time period ...
Also prepare your sauce and place beside too...
Now you may need to contact me personally if you are feeling "long-a-throaty" already ... laughs
Best served hot with a chilled Cocacola drink ...
I must also warn that ,you eat this kind of food with your bare hands and of course that is where the fun is really ...
TOURIST PLACES
A few of the tourists centres in ph..
We have the popular
PLEASURE PARK ...
SPARS --a large plaza spread across different locations of the city where everything and anything you need to live a life so long yoy have your financial backup ...
EATERIES -- the main ones being
GENESIS
KILIMANJARO
SIZZLERS
JO'VITS
etc....
The average port harcourt man is a luxury man ...
The ladies also have high tastes for life...
Thanks @anomadsoul for engaging me on this tour : maybe i would have written more but this for now..
