A few years ago I was lucky to find a great deal on a nifty little teleidoscope from the 70ies: the Cenei Vario-Spiegel-Vorsatz (see bottom). On these I used a UV light on UV reactive Plexiglas of assorted colors and a 50mm lens set at f22.
It can also be used with a wide aperture (f1.2) so that it all blends together with no seams:
