Hurray, 'tis done!
Yet more stripping off bark and sapwood, sawing, milling, gouging, filing, sanding, and polishing with beeswax has deteriorated the state of my fingertips even further; typing smarts a bit and I leave no recognisable fingerprints anymore.
All this work was not in vain, as it has yielded this, The Second One:
I'm very happy with the result and still looking at it, not bored with it yet at all. I wonder what all of you see in this one. Let your imagination run free, if you have any.
It is sitting next to The First One on display as an ornament in my living room, which is what I made them for. It is 75cm (2'5.5") tall, so it is a little higher than that first one:
Both of these are made out of about 40-year-old ivy wood, and started off on a tree looking much like this:
I got the ivy wood from trees that were felled by a storm and cut up for removal:
You can see where I have been sawing away to get my greedy hands on a nice piece of ivy.
So, The Second One is finished; it will be a while before I start a third one, as my hands need to recover first, and sanding this much does get a bit boring after a few days.
Thanks for watching!
