Many people are afraid of spiders.
Especially for them, I present here some photos of two of the largest species in The Netherlands.
These first ones are called wasp spider (Argiope bruennichi), wespspin or tijgerspin in Dutch. These usually sit low in the grass, so some may end up on your lower legs when you walk through a meadow:
The raft spider (Dolomedes fimbriatus), gerande oeverspin in Dutch, is very fast on land, but it can also walk and run on water, so you may encounter them when swimming. Diving to avoid them is no use, as they can do that too:
