When the family moved to the new neighborhood, Marco was still small, but he remembered perfectly well when the gardener planted a new tree, small like him, near the door of his house. He and his brother always played chase and circled the tree as if it were a buoy in the sea. Now Marco was about to retire, it had been a long time since those games, almost a whole life. Even the tree had grown up and Marco envied his ability to be reborn every spring.

Quando la famiglia si trasferì nel nuovo quartiere Marco era ancora piccolo, ma si ricordava perfettamente di quando il giardiniere piantò vicino alla porta della sua casa un alberello nuovo, piccolo come lui. Lui e suo fratello giocavano sempre a rincorrersi e facevano il giro dell'albero come se fosse una boa nel mare. Adesso Marco stava per andare in pensione, era passato molto tempo da quei giochi, quasi una vita intera. Anche l'albero era cresciuto e Marco gli invidiava la sua capacità di rinascere ad ogni primavera.
