Introducing Steemit to Family and Friends, and reactions.

Good day Steemians! I just new to Steemit and yes I’m a minnow, please take good care of me.

Newbie aside, I tried to introduce Steemit personally to family and friends in last few days. Most of them have no idea so I have to lecture them first about cryptocurrency and Bitcoin in general before I introduce Steemit as a social media platform that rewards you with Steem cryptocurrency for upvoting, curating and posting content like a blog. Duration of discussion went from 10 minutes up to more than 30 minutes, some walk out early.

I listed their memorable reactions (without their names):

• “Can I really make money with this? Sign me in”.
• “Did you cash out already? Proof 1st before I get in”.
• “It’s just numbers or digits, like this calculator”.
• “No way would people trade real money into these digital currencies”, then ask me later how.
• “Buy this 1st (pointing to his products) and I will listen to you”.
• “Whatever!”.
• “I smell something fishy into this…”
• “It’s just a Ponzi”.
• “Another MLM(multi-level marketing) or networking scheme”
• “If it’s a social media platform, can I upload my selfie picture too?”.
• “No time, I have to tend my kids/family, I’m a family man dude”.
• “I’m sleepy, let’s talk about this later” then went into his room.
• “I’m busy at work, can’t do it at the office. When I get home I hug my bed”.
• Just pretending that’s his listening to me and nodding while texting on his phone.
• “Please send me the links and I’ll look on it later online”.
• “Are you nuts!”

It's a mixed bag of reactions, some are funny I just smiled. I noticed if a person has vaguer knowledge of cryptocurrency, discussions are often discouraging and generally falls out, while an open minded person tends to have positive reactions and curious.

I’m inviting more people to share about Steemit so they can discover and use it to change their lives in positive ways, and tell them too it’s better than Facebook and Reddit :)
