It really needs an Oomph
Luckily the Irish have come to the rescue.
This is my first beer this weekend. Did not come around to drinking one earlier. Sunday evening, all the jobs that needed to be done are finished. Finally, nine thirty, time for that long awaited fine piece of brew! Could do with some bitter-sweet darkness right now. The 7% Layer Cake by Brewdog might just be the right one for that experience. A Marshmallow and Chocolate stout, seems very promising. If something promises sweet bitterness than it must be such a combination. High expectations, this simply cannot go wrong. Let me pop that can and pour it into a glass bowl.
It is so intensely dark that light cannot escape it. The Foam is full on, two fingers thick, nothing wrong there. And the smell has all the flavours represented. But then, the taste, that first sip, is it me, or is it the beer? It is so extremely bitter, that it might be better of being known as a triple IPA. What a disappoitment! Again, another sip, down the hatch. Oh no, no no no, this is not at all what I was expecting. No way that I'm going to pop another can or a cap. So, what to do then? Well, I still have some whisky liqueur blended delight left. Why not try an experiment?
Shanky's Whip, it might do the trick and fix the taste. Okay it is quite on the heavy side with its 33 percent, but I will drop only a little cap amount in and stir it thoroughly. Only after adding 5 Shanky filled caps added I could start to enjoy it. The beer foam would not come back, no matter how fast I stirred, but now I at least had the impression of marshmallow. And as a bonus caramel cream flavors added to the mixture. Now this was what I was expecting what the taste would be like. The smell got way more intense and it now smoothly goes down my throat. And somehow it seems to go straight to my head as well.
Never mind, it is my nightcap anyway, no seconds needed, nor wanted. This Brewdog might be a good one to ice, making it stronger and better taste. And then add some Shanky's as well. But like it came out off the can it really is not my cup of tea. Yet there might be a market for this one. Bitter beer is still a thing with one IPA after another hitting the market. Therefore I might be a bad advisor as I'm more of a sweet tooth really. With the aid of Shanky's Whip I eventually got what I wanted. Almost finished it and I'll be in bed by eleven. Ready for another week in paradise.
Shanky's whip made the day.
