A lot has already been written about the famous Cologne Cathedral. This is not surprising, because it is one of the most significant historical and religious buildings in the world. When I first saw the cathedral with my own eyes up close, it took my breath away.
The construction of the Cologne Cathedral began in 1248 and lasted, with breaks until 1880, for more than 600 years. The temple is 144.5 m long and 86.5 m wide, and its two towers reach 157 m in height.
This is the entrance to the cathedral. Even if any temple had only such a detailed entrance, it would already be a historical monument.
Hundreds of sculptures were made to decorate the façade, towers and portals. Each of them is a work of art.
The sculptures are made so skillfully that you can easily distinguish facial features on them.
In different places, the sculptures are made differently, which indicates that they were made in different periods by different masters.
Just look at that arch above the entrance!
Because of its huge two towers, it also has a larger facade than any other church in the world.
The building is truly majestic and worthy of the attention of any tourist. If you will be in Cologne, be sure to visit this temple. It is clearly visible from any corner of the city.
