Colony is Yeon Sang-ho’s new zombie movie from 2026. Same guy who did Train to Busan. This time instead of a train, everyone’s stuck in one big building in Seoul and there’s a virus going around. I personally enjoyed train to Busan because I'm a fan of zombie movies. It came out May 2026 in Korea and even played at Cannes. Jun Ji-hyun is back in movies after like 11 years, and she’s with Ji Chang-wook and Koo Kyo-hwan too.
The whole thing is basically: biotech conference goes wrong, Scientist Seo Young-chul injected himself with a vaccine to his virus and releases a virus on purpose by injecting professor Kang Woo-chul chains bio CEO in his office after accusing him of stealing his idea and left him out, but there is a professor who received an invitation for a job after being divorced and being jobless, looking for a job within the company, she saw them arguing but didn't know what was going on as she went back to her ex- husband, after the outbreak the government locks the building. Now Se-jeong, Gyu-sung, Hyun-seok, Hyun-hee, Bong-seok, school bullying victim So-eun, and several civilians become trapped in the building's shopping mall have to survive.
But the zombies here aren’t dumb. They evolve and they act like ants. They learn, they team up, they hunt together. Creepy. Yeon said he made them that way to talk about AI and how we’re all getting too connected and losing ourselves. So it’s not just gore, there’s a message too. His plan didn't work, he made the virus in a way that they continue to learn from their mistakes, he later took control of the zombies, making use of CCTV camera, he can see through each and everyone of the zombies, he can hear everything being said, that makes them special and very lethal, the group had to use some sort of text or gestures to communicate among themselves, kwon se jeong was the only survivor among them, she learnt that the zombies can't sense human if their vomitus or blood is being put on clothing so she used that strategy and followed seo Yung chul who was controlling the zombies Assisted by updates over the phone from Seol-hee her ex-husbands wife a scientist working to develop a virus, Se-jeong strips a jacket covered in mycelium from a corpse to disguise herself among the horde and drives a car to ram Young-chul. Se-jeong throws the mycelium jacket over the head of one of the infected, trapping hundreds of other infected in a collective, spinning ant mill. The massive combination of sensory data overloads and crashes them collective system, reverting the intelligence of all infected to a primitive state. Se-jeong takes advantage of the chaos to slide under a bus to hide; the out-of-control horde shifts its focus to the bus's advertisement, pushing the nearby Young-chul into a burning car, where he burns to death. With the death of Young-chul, all infected across the city instantly freeze. With the only supposed vaccine gone, Se-jeong walks out, discussing with Seol-hee on how to explain the infection to the public. As she walks away, however, one of the frozen infected suddenly moves.

Honestly, It’s fun and scary. If you liked Train to Busan you’ll like this, but it feels different. The building setting makes it tense(some vomitus by the zombie keeps growing on the wall) because there’s nowhere to run. And the zombies are actually scary. Not just run and bite but they’re watching and planning vibes, as they are being controlled by the first one to be infected with the virus. According to scientist Seo Young-chul he wanted to make humans special, in a way that they will be connected together,I didn't know he wants to control everyone that's why Kang Woo-chul rejected the idea and he feels that his work was plagiarized.

Gyu sung was the first to die among them, he acted as a hero saving a girl not worth saving, Jun Ji-hyun was great. She didn’t feel like an action star, just a normal professor trying not to die. Koo Kyo-hwan as the guy who caused everything was chilling. I also like the bravery of hyung seok, he was very lethal and full of action, he later became angry when his sister was killed by the zombies and decided to kill everyone in the building because of what the group did, they didn't agree to go and save her, it was too late, but later he was killed by how own sister that turned to zombie.

In conclusion, I like how the movies was made, tapped in a building, a lot of bio zombies. I don't think this can replace train to Busan but if you like technology and this type of zombies are just different type, they dies not just by shooting their head but even body too, they really worked smart and it's worth watching.
