Gun control is front and center after the latest school shooting in Florida and it is interesting to see politicians who've taken money from the gun lobby squirm their way out of this one. First we had Marco Rubio's robotic answers at the CNN town hall and not to be outdone, Ted Cruz is trying to make himself seem more human by referencing The Simpsons, although it would have helped if he actually watched the show.
During the Conservative Political Action Conference, better known as CPAC, Ted Cruz was asked to discuss gun control in the context of a Simpsons episode where Marge and Homer disagree about having guns in the house.
Cruz, who claims to be a Simpsons fan (that cringeworthy video he did for Buzzfeed), said the following:
“I think the Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson and the Republicans are, happily, the party of Homer and Bart and Maggie and Marge.”
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Any real Simpsons fan can see what's wrong with this. Lisa's the intelligent one and the voice of reason in the show. On the other hand, Homer is poorly informed and reacts to everything without thinking. So that's what he really thinks about his voters...
Just as there's a Donald Trump tweet about everything, there's also a Simpsons episode for everything. It made the rounds back in November '16 when Donald Trump won the elections but back in 2000, the show predicted Lisa would become president in 2020 after Trump tanks the economy. Increasing debts and rising interest rates make that look increasing likely.

Honest question, why do people even vote for Ted? He's not very personable. He's a hypocrite - just voted to increase the debt, voted against aid for Hurricane Sandy which affected the East coast but expects help for Hurricane Harvey, among other fiascos. He may try to come off as folksy but let's face it... his wife used to work for Goldman.
If it's any consolation, it looks like he's about to be voted out.
